Kaup (Kapu) is a small town, in Udupi district of Karnataka, 15km from the University town of Manipal. West coast adventures have been conducting scuba diving here from the past three years and I’m surprised that a lot of people (including me) had no clue about it.

Being born and brought up in the coastal city of Mangalore, not only have I always loved the Sea, but I’ve also had this weird, but strong attachment towards it. Whenever I’d take a boat ride, I’d always feel this urge to jump into the water, and yesterday, I finally got to do that!
We started out on the boat to the dive site in the morning, after a briefing on the basics of scuba diving by Bharathraj Shetty, one of the instructors. There are also two other scuba diving instructors: Luis and Praveen. All of them are PADI and SSI certified instructors. And then there’s Archana, she’s a DMT (Dive Master Trainee). They make a super fun and friendly team!

After practicing the diving instructions on the boat, we were to dive in groups of three (one instructor takes one person at a time). Although I was a little scared regarding the breathing part, the moment I got into the water, all of that vanished. #watermakesmehappy 😂

Luis showed me around: so many different kinds of fishes, even schools of them swimming together. All so colourful and with varied prints on them! I was in a state of disbelief; like, am I really swimming with these fishes in the middle of the Sea? Am I dreaming? Everything seemed to look bigger inside the water, I didn’t even realise that I ever had short-sightedness. And yes, I did try to find Nemo, but I found Dory instead!😅 (well, she did look like Dory I don’t know.)
The dive was about 30 minutes, although it felt like 30 seconds. (Time flies when you’re happy, doesn’t it?) If I had a pair of gills, you’d never see me on land again.😂 Needless to say, life is more than beautiful, underwater. I wish I could do this more often. I don’t know why a lot of people think diving isn’t safe. It certainly is a lot more safer than driving. You don’t even need to be a swimmer, because you’ll be taken underwater by the instructor. And here, not only do you get to experience scuba diving, but you can also learn and get an international diving certificate!
So here’s a bunch of photos from my dive yesterday (probably the happiest pictures of me!)
